ABOUT When things break on a Navy ship, duct tape won't cut itHull Maintenance Technicians are the experienced welders and metal workers who can forge or fabricate just about anything a ship needs to repair everything from hull breaches to broken pipesYou will specialize in all aspects of ship repair and will work on every inch of metal on the vesselYou'll maintain your own shop and get to work on everything from the belly of the ship all the way up to the pilothouseThe mission of the Navy Reserve is to provide strategic depth and deliver operational capabilities to the Navy and Marine Corps team and Joint forces, in times of peace or warNavy Reserve Sailors seamlessly support and actively aid that mission, all while continuing to lead their own independent lives in the civilian worldRESPONSIBILITIES Hull Maintenance Technicians (HT) do the metal work necessary to keep all types of shipboard structures and surfaces in good conditionYour job responsibilities as a HT may include:
Installing, maintaining and repairing valves, plumbing fitting and fixtures, piping and marine sanitation systems Inspecting and testing welds and other shipboard structures Heat treating and crafting with metals such as aluminum, steel, copper, brass and iron Pipe cutting and assembly Repairing ventilation ducts, insulation and lagging Managing the Quality Assurance Program Enforcing safety and security procedures Preparing records and reports WORK ENVIRONMENT HTs in the Navy Reserve can expect to be assigned to amphibious combat units, naval shipyards, special warfare commands, maritime security squadrons, cargo handling battalions, and a host of other opportunitiesYou may work indoors in a shop environment or outdoors in a range of climate and weather conditionsTRAINING AND ADVANCEMENT Upon completion of the initial 7-9 week training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes (known as Boot Camp) , you'll report for specialized training, including:
